Question: As’salaamu Alaikum. Can you please let me know what i should do with old and torn pages which has the name of Allaah Ta’ala?

Answer:

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

If a person has old and tattered portions of the Quraan which he wants to discard then it is better for him to wrap them in a clean cloth and bury them in a place where people will not trample upon them. If a person has old and tattered portions of an Islaamic book which he needs to discard then he may erase the name of Allaah Ta’ala, His Angels and His messengers and burn the tattered pages. He may also bury them which is more preferable than burning them.[1]

And Allaah Ta’ala knows best

(قال فى الدر المختار: المصحف إذا صار بحال لا يقرأ فيه يدفن كالمسلم) قال ابن عابدين فى رد المحتار: قوله يدفن: أى يجعل في خرقة طاهرة ويدفن في محل غير ممتهن لا يوطأ…..وأما غيره من الكتب فسيأتى فى الحظر والاباحة أنه يمحى عنها إسم الله تعالى وملائكته ورسله ويحرق الباقى ولا بأس بأن تلقى فى ماء جار كما هى أو تدفن وهو أحسن. {رد المحتار على الدر المختار ج1 ص177}
